Is The Christian Right A Force To Be Reckoned With In The 2016 Presidential Race?

Christian Right (google image)
Opening Quote"There's no doubt that the Christian Right has gone to bed with the more conservative elements of the Republican Party. And there's been a melding in their goals when it comes to the separation of Church and State."- Jimmy Carter

If the applause being received by likely candidates like Mike Huckabee, Senator Ted Cruz, Governor Bobby Jindal, and Ben Carson are any indication the Christian Right are gearing up in preparation for the next Presidential election. The "Powers that be" are encouraging Pastors like never before to become politically active. Having the power and say a united front of church congregations could provide is more important now than ever. A desire for Christian Heritage needs to be restored because failure in electing socially conservative candidates is taking it's toll. Will evangelicals be up to the task?

Where the rubber meets the road....

I have personally never been a big fan of pastors delving into the realm of politics. It wasn't so much the idea of separation of church and state but I realized Christians disagree about what the Bible says so Politics would never promote harmony thus hindering His Kingdom. For Christians, especially pastors it's about Christ and spreading the Gospel not about influencing who someone's voting for.

However I am beginning to change my mind, at least a little. Our Country is broken! Although I still don't approve of politics being discussed from the pulpit I do believe pastors have a right to play a role in the political process as does every American. Reverend King was pivotal in Civil Rights so it has been necessary in our nation's past. History tells us God blesses his people when they follow Him under a Godly leader which is in contrast to Him withdrawing prosperity under ungodly leadership. Hundreds of years ago when people left England so they could worship as He intended God blessed us with the birth of a great nation.

So it is not surprising as we continue to turn away from God our country suffers. We need a Christian President who focuses and trusts in Jesus instead of succumbing to political fears and intimidation. It would be a comfort to me to have a President who I believed truly took his cares to the Lord and was not ashamed to go to seek his guidance for help.
How about you?

Is Time Running Out For Succcessful US/Iran Nuclear Talks?

Secretary of State John Kerry (google image)
Opening Quote"The Obama presidency has two great missions:  fixing the economy, and preventing Iran from gaining nuclear weapons."- Benjamin Netanyahu

As US Secretary of State Kerry tries to deal with Iran's nuclear program the gaps preventing
a deal remain. There has been some agreement when it comes to some of the technical issues but reaching the goal by the deadline will be difficult. The structure must be agreed upon by both parties by the end of March. The State Department continues to report talks have been constructive despite issues of transparency, verification, and sanctions.
Will Iran's economy continue to suffer?
Will Iran develop a nuclear bomb?

Where the rubber meets the road...

White House officials have stated the chances are around fifty percent. The way I see it there is going to be a deal. The only alternative leads to war. It's just a mess really. Iran wants sanctions lifted immediately after a deal is struck and the US wants to see proof of their compliance first.

Who would be the first to give in? My guess is President Obama which is why even some Democrats agree Congress must approve any deal. If a deal is not reached and the US decides to increase sanctions it will not do much good if Russia and China don't come along. They won't! Iran will continue their nuclear program and Israel will eventually take action.

So to avoid war Obama will find some way to get a deal done even if it's not a good one. I know the 47 GOP sending the Iran leadership that "warning" letter didn't help matters but neither did President Obama pleading with the Iranian people directly to accept a deal. To be perfectly honest I am not to concerned about the particulars of a deal since Iran will end up breaking any deal with the "infidels".

Congress is trying to pass legislation that requires their approval but I'm sure the President would just veto it anyway. So in the end we will have some sort of deal. My guess if the deadline passes they will just continue to talk until something gets done. Nothing solves problems like deciding to just kick the can down the road.
What do you think?
